TV Pilot. So Easy A Caveman Could Do It.

According to this blurb in Variety, ABC is in the process of developing a pilot revolving around those 3 cavemen from the Geico commercials. This could either be totally awesome or totally awful. Right now, I’m digging the cavemen commercials. I still find them fresh and hilarious. However, I hope they don’t get played out by this new pilot. Let’s just hope for the best; that ABC doesn’t drive this piece of advertising genius into the ground.

UPDATE: This TV show turned out to be utter dogshit.

What Not To Do At A British Pub

Went to the monthly pint night at Shakespeare’s British pub last night with Fletch and Johann. I finally scored me a Smithwick’s pint glass. I had gone to a Smithwick’s pint night before, many moons ago, but I accidentally cracked the glass when I got home. I was half-pissed, half-saddened - but now, redemption. The place was pretty damn crowded, mostly due to some bloke’s 50th birthday party, which occupied 99.99% of the indoor space with people and balloons. So, we were relegated to the outside patio, which was freezing (by San Diego standards; a balmy 55 degrees).

Next to us, were 3 overweight out-of-towners. They had strong Southern accents, smoked literally a pack of Marlboros every 5 minutes, and talked up NASCAR like no other. All fine by me. But for the love of God, don’t come to a British pub and order a Bud Light. This place is hallowed grounds for ex-pats, soccer fans, local regulars, and lovers of quality beer. Why come all that way, just to throw back a bottle of yak piss. Just as shocking was that Shakies even had Bud Light to begin with, albeit in a bottle. Reckless, irresponsible behavior like this should not be tolerated at all.

Hacking Guitar Hero

I’ve had a renewed commitment to keeping my blog up to date. We’ll see how long it lasts…

I spent all last night attempting to hack Guitar Hero II to accept custom songs. There is a fairly large, growing community of people who create their own GH tracks, replace the existing tracks on the game, then shred to their heart’s delight. After much trial & error and pure frustration, I was able to get it working. I’ve only loaded 3 tracks so far:

Iron Maiden - Hallowed Be Thy Name
The Darkness - I Believe In A Thing Called Love
Foo Fighters - Times Like These

The quality of the hacks are based purely on the effort put in by the people who make them. Most songs only have 1 working difficulty level, which is usually Expert, and no coop mode. Occasionally, there are some stud-nerds that pull out all the stops and do all difficulty levels and coop mode, such as the Maiden tune. Creating the songs seems rather time consuming and I’m too much of a lazy ass to work on it. I’m perfectly content on being lazy and relying on the hard work of the nerd community, all the while lambasting and criticizing their laziness for not making more songs and not incorporating more difficulty levels and coop mode.

Here is an example of the hack…

Journey - Any Way You Want It

*UPDATE*
Faith No More - Epic
Journey - Any Way You Want It

Surprisingly, Epic is just a blast to play as it is to air guitar and sing to. Even though the guitar parts are short, they are pretty damn rocking. I really hope these rumors about 80s and Metal editions of Guitar Hero are true. Most likely, there will be a MTV-sponsored Fallout Boy only edition for $80. >:O
